I thought I had already posted this song. Anyway, it was written by Tom Petty and Bob Dylan from the headlines of the times.

My wonderful wife has received the You Lift Me Up award twice on her blog. Both times she has passed it on to me. Check out her posts here and here. She is such a wonderful wife and person, she well deserves both of the You Lift Me Up awards she has received. I would like to pass it right back to her – nobody I know deserves an award like this as much as she does. Renee has stuck by me through a few major illnesses – ones where I couldn’t work – sometimes for extended periods of times. She loves me in spite of all of my faults. She offers encouragement when I’m feeling down. She has helped me be a better person. She truly is my better half. I can’t think of anyone who deserves this award more than she does. I love you Renee!

This week 3 random questions
If you could buy one album right now, which one would it be?
It would actually be two albums – Third Day Chronology Volume 1 and Volume 2
Have you read any rock related biographies? If so, what was the most recent one you’ve read? Did you like it?
I haven’t actually read any rock related biographies, but I do own a killer book called DK Encyclopedia of Rock Stars.
Oct 9th would have been John Lennon’s 67th birthday. List a few things about John that you know. Random facts, or just things about John that mean something to you, if you are a fan.
I’m not a huge John Lennon fan – my wife is a huge John Lennon fan. I do like some of his music though.
From later in his career.
One of Ozzy’s better songs, with Randy Rhoads

A two part meme if you choose to accept both challenges:
Top 5 cover songs that are better than the originals
Manfred Mann’s Earth Band – Blinded By The Light — This version is much better than Bruce Springsteen’s
Molly Hatchet – Dreams I’ll Never See – A cover of the Allman Brothers song Dreams. They’re 2 different songs really. The Allman Brothers perform the song in 3/4 time, Molley Hatchet performs it in 4/4 time. Both are great songs.
Elton John – Pinball Wizard – It’s been said that you like the first version of a song that you hear. That’s the case with me here.
The Scorpions – Can’t Explain – I like both The Who’s version and the Scorpion’s version of this song.
Santana – Black Magic Woman/Gypsy Queen – Santana’s version of the Black Magic Womanportion of this song is by far better than the original Fleetwood Mac version. As for the Gypsy Queenportion, I would hate to say anybody was better than Jimi.
and/or
Top 5 Beatles or Beatles-related covers (Knowing full well that these can never be better than the original)
Chicago – Got To Get You Into My Life – Chicago was the first concert I ever went to. The tickets way back then were $7.50, including handling fee (which was only 50 cents, from Ticketmaster). I got to see them with Terry Kath, just a few months before he died. They closed the show with Got To Get You Into My Life
Cheap Trick – Day Tripper – I saw Cheap Trick in 1981 at the University of The Pacific in Stockton, CA. One of the last songs they played was Day Tripper
Elton John – Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds
Guns ‘n’ Roses – Live And Let Die (Beatles related – one of Paul’s songs) – Again, I like both versions – GNR’s version just has a little harder edge to it.
Aerosmith – Come Together – Of course the Beatles version is better, but Aerosmith does a decent version.

Appetizer
On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being highest, how much do you look forward to your birthday?
-5 – I really don’t look forward to my birthdays any more. I do look forward to family member’s birthdays, though.
Soup
What is one word you don’t like the sound, spelling, or meaning of?
The closest thing would be when people spell my name like the female version – Erin. That has always really ticked me off.
Salad
Do you wear sunglasses when you’re outside? If so, what does your current pair look like?
I did wear sunglasses before I wore regular glasses.
Main Course
If you were to write a book, to whom would you dedicate it?
My lovely wife and children
Dessert
Name a beverage that you enjoy.
Diet coke nowadays. Back when I could still drink, I loved shots of 100+ proof just about anything, followed with an imported beer chaser.
