Top 5 CDs That You Bought Used

20th Century Masters – The Millennium Collection- The Best of Donnie Iris  —  I got this one mainly to get the song Ah! Leah!

Back In Black – Back In Black  –  This is a local (D/FW area) AC/DC cover band, that is actually pretty good.  They do some of their own stuff, my favorite of which is Drop The Bomb

Mike + the Mechanics – The Living Years  –  Mainly for the song The Living Years

Friendship

Suggested by Marsha:

Buy a Friend a Book Week is October 1-7 (as well as the first weeks of January, April, and July). During this week, you’re encouraged to buy a friend a book for no good reason. Not for their birthday, not because it’s a holiday, not to cheer them up–just because it’s a book.

What book would you choose to give to a friend and why?

My best friend is my wife.  She loves anything by Nora Roberts, a.k.a. JD Robb.  She has read most of the Nora Roberts books, and some of the JD Robb books.  If I knew which books she has NOT read, I’d buy them for her.  My wife loves to read, and can read pretty darn fast – she read the last Harry Potter book in about 14 hours!  In case you’re wondering why I don’t know which books  she hasn’t read yet, Nora Roberts has written somewhere around 150 novels – kind of a lot to keep track of.  Why would I buy my wife these books? – Because she’s my best friend, and I love her more than anything else in the world, along with my children.

~ Favorites

What is your favorite movie soundtrack or score? (You can tell us why if you like)

The Blues Brothers:  Original Soundtrack.  This is also one of my favorite movies.

What is your favorite album by your favorite artist/band?

Definintly Boston/Boston (their first album).  If I got stuck on a deserted island and could only have one album (assuming there was a way to play said album on the deserted island) This would be the album I’d want.

What is your favorite music video?

Allman Brothers Band – Blue Sky and Jessica

21 09 2007

Dickey Betts wrote Blue Sky about his then girlfriend, later to become his wife, Sandy “Bluesky” Wabegijig.  They were married in 1973, and divorced 2 years later.  For a long time after the divirce, Dickey refused to perform this song.  This was the first song Dickey sang lead on.  Duane Allman and Dicket Betts played on the bridge solo -  one playing lead, the other playing rhythym.  They switched up about half way through. For a measure or 2, they synch’d up on a riff or 2, for a couple of measures.  I couldn’t find a video with Duane, but here’s a pretty good one.

On May 14, 1972, Dickey and Sandy Blue Sky had a daughter, that they named Jessica.  About a year later, with the help of his daughter, Dickey wrote the song Jessica.  He had been working on an in strumental, and wouldn’t let his wife clean the room where he was writing.  There were wads of paper, trash, beer cans, guitar strings, and all kinds of stuff just laying around.  Dickey could hear the melody in his head, but couldn’t quite get it out on the guitar.  Jessica crawled into the room, knocking everything all over the place crawling around.  Dickey started playing to her, and out came the melody to the song.

Sunshine and Roses

The reverse of last week’s question:

Imagine that everything is going just swimmingly. The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and all’s right with the world. You’re practically bouncing from health and have money in your pocket. The kids are playing and laughing, the puppy is chewing in the cutest possible manner on an officially-sanctioned chew toy, and in between moments of laughter for pure joy, you pick up a book to read . . .

What is it?

I actually might read the same thing(s) as I posted last week – any of the Left Behind series or The Bible.  I’m currently reading Eldest, the second book of the Inheritance trilogy.  I might also start reading The Dark Tower series, or just about anything else by Stephen King.  I read book one and two of The Dark Tower series years ago, but need to read them again, so I can understand the rest of the books in the series.

19 09 2007

For those of you who might have a weak stomach, you probably want to skip this story.

Tonight we were sitting in the living room watching tv, when our oldest son started looking quite pale.  He had been complaining of a headache.  Next thing we know, he jumps up and heads for the kitchen (linoleum floor), and empties his stomach.  I put some towels over the stuff on the floor, until we can get my son calmed down, cleaned up, and fresh clothes put on.  My wife and I were attending to him, when all of a sudden we hear the pitter patter of our youngest son’s feet behind us, running in from the bedroom. I turn around, just as our youngest steps on the towels that are laying on top of the “package” our other son left on the floor.  I am telling my youngest to watch out, but by the time I get the words out, he had just stepped on the towels, still with forward momentum.  As the last word came out, my youngest son slipped, pushing the towels out of the way, and fell on his butt with his hands beside him, in the middle of what my other son had deposited on out kitchen floor.  First word out of his mouth was “Ow!”, because he hit kinda hard, followed by “eeww!”.  My wife couldn’t keep from laughing, and I was having a hard time not laughing, at the same time trying to console our youngest, who now had a butt, back, and hands covered in the stomach contents of our oldest son.

Top 5 depressing songs.

1. The Living Years – Mike and The Mechanics (this song makes me cry every time I hear it)

2. Night Shift – The Commodores

3. The Eagles – Best of My Love

4. Journey – Faithfully (This one is even more depressing, when you consider the fact that Jonathan Cain wrote the song for his wife, then they end up getting divorced anyway)

5. Empty Garden – Elton John

Edit:  I have to add one more song that really does make me cry every time I hear it:

Eric Clapton – Tears in Heaven

When was the last time you visited a hospital?

Monday morning, August 27, 2007.  It wasn’t really a visit though – I fell and tore the ACL in my right knee.

Soup
On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being highest, how ambitious are you?

In regards to family – I’d say 6 or 7.  I really want my family to have a good life.  As for work, probably a 4 – I’m not very ambitious in that respect (I’m not out to get as rich as possible) which sorta bothers me sometimes.

Salad
Make a sentence using the letters of a body part. (Example: (mouth) My other ukelele tings healthily.)

Arm – All roses molt.

Main Course
If you were to start a club, what would the subject matter be, and what would you name it?

I don’t believe I’d like to do that.

Dessert
What color is the carpet/flooring in your home?

Beige carpet, and white linoleum.
