A few weeks ago I was remembering a song I loved by Diamond Rio, but I couldn’t remember the name of the song. finally, I googled Diamond Rio to get to a site that listed the albums and songs they did. It was really bugging me that I couldn’t remember the name of the song – finally I got it! “That’s How Your Love Makes Me Feel”. Here’s a video to it. The song was on Diamond Rio’s Greatest Hit’s album released in 1997.
That’s How Your Love Makes Me Feel by Diamond Rio – Another song for my wife

Sketches In The Sun – GTR/Steve Howe
23 07 2007I first heard “Sketches In The Sun” from the self-titled album by the supergroup GTR. GTR was formed by former Yes and Asia guitarist Steve Howe, and by former Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett. What is really amazing about this song is that Steve Howe is the ONLY person playing any instruments – only ONE guitar playing this song! I could find little more information specifically on this song. I was able to find a pretty good video to the song, available by clicking here. GTR only had one album, but it was a pretty good one. Look for one or 2 more videos from that album here in a few days.

For My Wife – 10 years married, 12 years together – you’re “Still The One” Sweetie.
18 07 2007To my wonderful wife, whom I adore tremendously – Happy Anniversary! Wow! 10 years married, and 12 years together! It seams like it was only yesterday that we just met.
We met through a dating service – Great Expectations. We spoke on the phone for awhile and agreed we were going to go to Pier 39 in San Francisco for our first date. The date was to take place about a week or week and a half after we spoke, but I couldn’t wait. I called you a day or 2 later, and we agreed to dinner and a movie. I remembered you were from Philly, and hadn’t had a decent cheesesteak since you left that area. I knew of a very good cheesesteak shop in WC. They import their ingredients from Philly. Friends of mine from Philly said it’s the best they’ve had outside of Philly – and are actually very close to a true Philly cheesesteak.
We had dinner at The CheeseSteak Shop, then went to see Apollo 13 at a theater right around the corner from there. Two days later you cooked me one of my favorite home cooked meals – slow cooked pot roast. When I got out of my car across the street from your house, I could smell this wonderful smell of cooking pot roast. I wasn’t sure exactly where it was coming from until you opened your front door. I believe we watched Thunderheart after dinner, but I’m not sure – I had such a great time that night! A few days later we actually had what was supposed to be out first date – we took the ferry from Oakland – Jack London Square over to Pier 39 and had a wonderful day. As they say, the rest is history. Two wonderful sons and 12 years later, you’re “Still The One”. I couldn’t find a decent video to this song, but here are the words:
“Still The One” by Orleans
————————————————–
(John Joseph Hall and Johanna D. Hall)
We’ve been together since way back when
Sometimes I never want to see you again
But I want you to know
After all these years
You’re still the one
I want whisperin’ in my ear
You’re still the one
I want to talk to in bed
Still the one
That turns my head
We’re still having fun
And you’re still the one
I looked at your face every day
But I never saw it ’til I went away
When winter came
I just wanted to go (wanted to go)
Deep in the desert
I longed for the snow
You’re still the one
That makes me laugh
Still the one
That’s my better half
We’re still having fun
And you’re still the one
You’re still the one
That makes me strong
Still the one
I want to take along
We’re still having fun
And you’re still the one (yes you are)
[Musical Interlude]
Changing, our love is going gold
Even though we grow old, it grows new
You’re still the one
That I love to touch
Still the one
And I can’t get enough
We’re still having fun
And you’re still the one
You’re still the one
Who can scratch my itch
Still the one
And I wouldn’t switch
We’re still having fun
And you’re still the one
You are still the one
That makes me shout
Still the one
That I dream about
We’re still having fun
And you’re still the one
You’re still the one
Yeah, still the one
We’re still having fun
And you’re still the one
Here’s another great one by Orleans – “Dance With Me” – I actually found a video for this one
And of course, “our song” when we first met – “Love Will Keep Us Alive”.
Another song for my wife. She is a huge Beatles fan, specifically John Lennon. Here is a video of one of her favorite songs – “In My Life”. Another one here, here, here, and here.
I love you sweetie! I’m looking forward to another 50 or 60 years together!

For my sister
17 07 2007Third Day has been one of my favorite bands since I first heard their rendition of Blessed Assurance on the radio about 2 years ago. I can’t find the video to that song, but I did find videos to King of Glory and Agnus Dei, two very good songs by Third Day. I hope my sister likes them.

Black Betty – Bam A Lam!
17 07 2007The first version of Black Betty that I heard was released by a band named Ram Jam in 1977. They didn’t write the song, but the version commonly heard on the radio was arranged by them. The 1977 release isn’t the first time the song was recorded either. The song has been attributed to Huddy “LeadBelly” Ledbetter, but: “The song was first recorded in the field by U.S. musicologists John and Alan Lomax in 1933, performed a capella by the convict James Baker (also known as Iron Head) and a group at Central State Farm, Sugar Land, Texas.”
I found a few pretty good versions, with videos, to Black Betty.
Here’s the one by Ram Jam.
I thought this one done by the Australian band Spiderbait was pretty good too.
I even found this done by Meatloaf, although I think the sound track is off a bit. Still sounds good, though.

Time Travel Tuesday – Wedding Edition
3 07 2007For more great TTT, please visit Annie at My Life as Annie by clicking on the above picture.
This week we’re to recall our wedding day. My wonderful wife did such a great job of describing our wedding day, I’ll just copy what she wrote. Here it is:
“This week Annie asked us to re-visit our wedding experience. Aaron and I met and dated while living in Northern CA. We wanted a small wedding of close family and friends so we decided to go to Tahoe for a weekend and get married. We were married in Lake Tahoe on the Nevada side; our ceremony was held aboard the MS Dixie II- a paddle boat steamer. We were married at the start of the cruise and then had dinner, dancing, and an afternoon cruise of Emerald Bay, Lake Tahoe. It was a wonderful time!
Here are some pictures:
